Foot Facts

According to the history boffins here at Oursoles, The first human being stood upright one million years ago and civilisation was born.

The earliest footwear worn by Oursoles ancestors consisted of simple skin sandals to protect the feet from cold and injury.

In more recent times, footwear has been worn primarily for style and status rather than comfort and function, often resulting in a foot problem or two especially when it comes to what you wear to protect your feet,,,,

Wearing improper footwear on the job not only causes painful problems for the worker but contributes to thousands of hours of downtime, translating into the loss of millions of pounds in industry each year.

Despite taking the impact from the thousands of steps we walk and run each day, stuffed into all types of footwear, we pay little or no heed to our plates of meat.

It is no wonder that the majority of us will suffer some foot, leg or back problem in our lifetime as a result of inadequate footwear.

Oursoles believe that when it comes to footwear there is no room for half stepping.....

You spend on average one third of your life in bed and the rest of the time on your feet (or backside) – so why buy poor quality, bad fitting budget footwear?

So, if your body is a temple - What are your feet? – The Soul?

Check these facts out:

  • 3 out of 4 people experience serious foot problems in their lifetime, often as a result of neglect, lack of awareness of proper care and more importantly ill fitting shoes
  • The average foot is a complex arrangement of 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles all designed to work together in synchronised precision.
  • ¼ of all the bones in your body are down in your feet  – when these bones are out of alignment, so is the rest of your body.
  • There are 250,000 sweat glands in your tootsies. They can excrete as much as half a pint of moisture a day.
  • The average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day, which adds up to about 115,000 miles over a lifetime.

That’s enough to go around the circumference of the earth four times, run the London Marathon 4423 times or go around the M25 608 times!!

Fortunately, most foot problems can be prevented. Just follow the golden rule:

Be good to your feet and they will be good to you.
